Departures

  • When does an eNOD need to be filed?
  • An eNOD needs to be filed when a vessel is leaving a U.S. port and traveling to a foreign port, a designated lightering area, and a foreign flagged vessel and/or facility on the Outer Continental Shelf (OCS). It needs to be filed at least one hour prior to departure. eNOD’s should not be used between US ports and do NOT constitute as a notice of arrival for the next US port. Contact Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for further clarification.

  • Does an electronic Notice of Departure (eNOD) satisfy pre-arrival reporting requirements for vessels sailing between two U.S. ports?
  •  No.  Submission of an eNOD does not satisfy regulatory requirements to provide advanced notice of arrival to a U.S. port.  A valid Notice of Arrival (NOA) is required for each U.S. port arrival.

  • Can the NVMC tell me if my departure notice is received?
  • Departure notices collected by the NVMC are automatically sent to the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) APIS system. Submitters should receive an automated APIS receipt acknowledging receipt of their eNOD by CBP. The NVMC cannot verify if it has been received by APIS, but can verify that it has been submitted and view the information contained with the NOD.
